Tour Elqui Valley * Regional and astronomy tour *
Duration: full day

Valle de Elqui

We leave La Serena and head northeast to the mountains in direction of Vicuña.

During the trip we pass plantations of papya, avocados and Pisco-grapes, situated between little villages.

After apr. 50km we reach the dam "Puclaro" which we visit.

In Vicuña we will visit „Pisquera“ CAPEL (Pisco brewery). The tour will take about half an hour and show us the way the Pisco, the Chilean National Drink, is made. At the end you will have the opportunity of tasting the product in form of "Pisco Sour", "Vaina" - or just plain Pisco.

Then the "Ruta 41" will bring us further up the valley. In Montegrande we can visit the museum of Gabriela Mistral (Chilean poet and winner of the Nobel award of literature).

The highest point of the tour is the village "Pisco Elqui", where we will have lunch.

If you like to discover the mountain range around Pisco Elqui on horseback, you will have the opportunity to spend some hours on a horseriding trip (cost: 5.000 Chil. Pesos/hour) guided by an authentic "Chilean huaso" (cowboy).

On the way back we stop in Vicuña, where you can visit the handicraft-market, the "plaza" and the "Torre Bauer".

At night you have the possibility to participate in an astronomy tour at the „Mamalluca“ - oberservatory, where you can watch planets, stars, constellations and galaxies in one of the clearest skies of the world.

Tired, but with plenty of new experiences and impressions we finally head back to La Serena.

Price: Chil.Pesos $ 38.000 p.p.
